THAN JUST A JELLY BABY
A physical and stirring duet inspired by the courageous escape of two East Germans into the West in 1988. Combining dance, film (including historical footage), text and original music, the audience are immersed in an episode from the past that happened right on our doorstep. By following the characters on their escape the audience can share the frustration, the need for change, the dream of an ‘unreality’, the hesitance and fear as well as the sheer rawness of two people running for their lives.
The German choreographer, Sandra Harnisch-Lacey chose this personal account of a ‘cry for freedom’ to bring together this universal theme which touches upon everybody’s life in one way or another. The stunning original music by Florida leaves all the nerves tingling and is sure to set your imagination flying.
More than just a Jelly Baby toured Europe and Canada as part of ‘Dance Roads’, a European Touring Initiative, in January and February of 2004.
